Canberra Demographics

The diagrams below are taken from the Canberra Social Atlas 2006. They illustrate the current demographic trends within the ACT. These have been analysed and conclusions used to influence the design of Canberra for the 21st Century.

The areas with the highest population density are Civic, Gungahlin, Belconnen and Tuggeranong. Queanbeyan, just over the NSW border, is also a densely populated area.

The latter 2 studies clearly illustrate that there is a most people who live in Queanbeyan travel interstate to Canberra for work, however, they are totally dependent on on private automobiles with less than 4% using public transport. This highlights a serious need for an integration of Queanbeyan into Canberra's public transport network.
